In 1982, after articling with a national firm, Barbara Elkin obtained her chartered accountant designation. In 2000, she opened her own office in downtown Ottawa. Barbara regularly attends professional development seminars and conferences to keep abreast of the latest cutting edge trends and practices.
EDUCATION
Barbara obtained a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in English literature from McGill University (1976). That same year, she attended York University, where she earned a Master of Arts Degree in English Literature (1978). Returning to McGill University in 1978 to pursue a Graduate Diploma in Public Accountancy, she graduated in 1981 with high academic standing, ranking in the top five. Barbara completed the C.I.C.A. In-Depth Tax Program in 2000 and obtained the U.S. CPA Certificate from the Illinois CPA Society in 2004. In 2013 she graduated from Osgoode Hall law school with a Master of Laws (LLM) degree in Tax.
PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS
Barbara is a member of the Institute of Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario and Quebec. She is also a Certified Public Accountant (Illinois) and a member of both the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and the Canadian Tax Foundation.
